Eerste MP3 album uitgebracht

Wal-Mart to Sell Secure MP3 CDs

by Doug Reece Oct. 9, 1999

GT Interactive, a company known mostly for video game productions such as "Duke Nukem," has announced plans to release a new "Secure MP3" album series titled "MP3 Jukebox."

The album, which will be available only through Wal-Mart stores, will be bundled with a Destiny Media Player that allows users to play the copy-protected MP3 files.

Volume 1 of the "MP3 Jukebox" album will include 150 songs from 60 artists, including one cut from Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman. Wal-Mart has pre-ordered 20,000 units of the album, which will retail for $9.95.

"This is the first MP3 compilation to be sold in the North American retail channels," said Ed Kolic, Destiny's vice president of marketing. "We expect this title to sell extremely well because of the increasing consumer awareness for the MP3 music format and because we are first to market."
