MP3 (MPEG1 Layer 3), is a technical standard developed by the
Motion Picture Expert Group to compress digital data. Using the
standard format, audio data can be compressed by a factor of 1 in 12
without losing much fidelity. The Fraunhoffer Institute, who owns
the MP3 Patent, has now released MP3PRO with increased fidelity and
a compression ratio which has doubled. This allows twice the amount
of music to be stored in the same space, superior fidelity and
faster downloads.
The problem with any digital medium (MP3, WMA etc). is that those
without access to a PC or the Internet could not benefit from the
new technology. This has now been addressed by the proven pioneering
