USB writer for
MP3 player MMC cards
1-On the computer
Use the CD that is included with the package.
For all Windows operating systems use the setup utility USBSetup.exe. There are 3 distinct utilities within USBSetup.
Important, if at any time, any of the three procedures asks you re-start the PC, make sure you DO NOT.
Only re-start your PC when all three utilities have finished otherwise you will have to start all over again.
Once the installaton is finished, Shutdown the PC
Connect the writer to a USB port in the PC.
Restart the PC & the installation should complete automatically.
There will now be 2 extra Icons on the desktop : - CDex & MP3Pro

The portable player is capable of reading both MP3 & MP3Pro files. Both have a file extension of .MP3. Use CDex then MP3Pro to create your own MP3s from your CDs or get them from elsewhere. Some of the latest download sites can be found @ www.mp3.ltd.uk
Once you have MP3s on your hard drive, they can be placed on the MMC cards for the player to use.
2-On the writer
Insert the MMC card into the MMC writer attached to your PC.
Use the Windows Explorer interface to drag & drop files to the MMC card.
(In the example the removable Disk G)

Remove the MMC card from the writer.
3-On the player
Place the MMC card in one of the slots on the player.
Press Play.
Linux (2.4 Kernel)
From Andrew Richardson: "The following instructions work on my Red Hat 7.2 system and should work with just about any distribution with a 2.4 kernel. Linux is case sensitive and the commands are all in lower case".
1-On the computer
Place the MMC card into the USB reader/writer and plug it into the USB port of the PC
Open a shell and su root (you must re boot to do this !).
Either run a hardware detector or issue the command
modprobe USB- storage (or if necessary reboot although this should not be necessary)
the reader/writer & card should now be detected as a scsi device on /dev/sda1 (his might be /dev/sdb1 if another scsi device already exists.
Make a suitable mount point directory on the file system.
mkdir /mnt/mmc
Mount the reader/writer onto the filesystem
mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/mmc
You should now be able to read & write happily to the MMC card! - Point your preferred file browser to the directory /mnt/mmc.
When you have finished, you MUST remember to sync and unmount the reader/writer before removing the MMC card, otherwise the card could become corrupted.
sync; umount /mnt/mmc
2-On the writer
Remove the MMC card
3-On the player
Insert the MMC card in one of the slots on the player.
Press Play.
4-On CD Rippers/Encoders
"There are many good encoders and rippers available for free for Linux. I have tried a few and found that the easiest to use is probably RipperX. I personally use this in combination with cdparanoia (for ripping) and bladeenc (for encoding) I do not know of any Linux MP3Pro encoders. If you come across one please let me know @ AndrewRichardson."
